Our Pillars

How we build responsibly

Responsible Destination Stewardship

Viaje's AI recommends exploring destinations responsibly — visiting in the right season, at appropriate volumes, and with respect for local ecosystems. We actively surface under-visited destinations to reduce overtourism pressure on fragile heritage and natural sites.

Community-First Economics

Our zero-commission guide and partner model ensures that tourism money flows directly to local communities — not extracted by large intermediaries. Independent local guides and small travel businesses keep 100% of their earnings.

Eco-Certified Partner Network

Viaje gives priority listing to hotels, lodges, and tour operators holding recognised eco-certifications — including Green Globe, EarthCheck, LEED, and FSSAI-certified sustainable food operators. Eco-certified partners are highlighted in search and AI recommendations.

Slow Travel Advocacy

Our itinerary AI is deliberately calibrated to suggest depth over breadth — fewer destinations explored more fully, rather than the rushed multi-city hopping that maximises carbon footprint while minimising cultural connection. We consider travel a conversation, not a checklist.

Carbon Awareness

Viaje's flight booking interface shows indicative carbon emissions for routes where data is available. We partner with ICAO carbon calculator standards. Future features include voluntary carbon offset options for verified offsets via certified registries (Gold Standard, VCS).

Responsible Platform Operations

Viaje runs on renewable-energy-powered cloud infrastructure (Google Cloud's net-zero commitment and AWS's carbon neutrality goal). We maintain zero advertising on our platform — our business model does not depend on engagement maximisation or attention extraction.

For Travellers

The Traveller's Code of Conduct

Viaje's Traveller's Code is displayed to every user at onboarding and reinforced throughout the app. It is not a suggestion — it is our community standard.

1

Respect Local Customs

Dress appropriately, observe local norms, and approach communities with curiosity rather than assumptions.

2

Respect Nature & Wildlife

Observe — never disturb. No feeding wildlife. No collecting natural objects from protected areas.

3

Try Local Food & Culture

Eat at local restaurants, stay at local guesthouses, buy from local artisans — keep tourism money in the community.

4

Leave No Trace

Carry out what you carry in. Minimise single-use plastics. Dispose of waste responsibly.

5

Ask Before Photographing

Always ask permission before photographing people, sacred sites, or religious ceremonies. No means no.

6

Travel Slow

Choose depth over breadth. A single destination explored fully is worth more than ten visited superficially.

7

Support Local Businesses

Choose local guides, local transport, local accommodation. Avoid large chain-dominated options where local alternatives exist.

8

Learn a Few Words

Even three words of the local language signals respect and opens doors that money cannot.

9

Be Curious, Not Judgmental

Approach differences in lifestyle, tradition, and belief with genuine curiosity. Travel is the cure for narrow-mindedness.

Our Commitments

What we pledge

  • Zero advertising — forever. Viaje's platform will never carry ads. Our revenue model (subscriptions + memberships) does not require or incentivise engagement maximisation. We are not selling your attention.
  • Zero commission on local guides and partners. Keeping 100% of earnings with local operators is one of the most direct levers for community economic sustainability in tourism.
  • Priority eco-certification visibility. Eco-certified businesses receive priority placement in Viaje's AI recommendations and search results — a direct commercial incentive for sustainable operations.
  • Slow travel by design. Our AI will never recommend a travel style that maximises carbon output for the sake of completionism. Itineraries are always calibrated for meaningful depth.
  • Anti-overtourism features. Viaje's destination discovery surfaces under-visited locations alongside popular ones — actively redistributing visitor traffic to protect fragile destinations.
  • ATOAI membership. Viaje is a member of the Adventure Tour Operators Association of India — committing to responsible adventure tourism standards and ethical guiding practices.
  • Transparent carbon data. Flight bookings display indicative carbon emissions. Future roadmap includes certified voluntary carbon offsets via Gold Standard and VCS registries.
  • Responsible data practices. Viaje's zero-ad policy extends to data — we do not sell, license, or monetise user data to advertisers, data brokers, or any commercial third parties.
